Call out for new and emerging film makers for the Qantas Short Film Competition
The Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival is calling for new and emerging filmmakers from across Australia to apply for the 2016 Qantas Short Film Competition.
The competition is designed to bring Australian outback inspired content to the silver screen and further promote and encourage film production in the outback and offer unique film opportunities for students and independent filmmakers.
Filmmakers are encouraged to submit any genre of film, from fiction, documentary to comedy or drama on the topic of “Time” with a maximum duration of 7-minutes.
Short listed entries are screened on the final night of the 2016 Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival under the stars in Winton’s historic open-air Royal Theatre to an audience of avid supporters of the Australian Film industry.
“The Qantas Short Film Competition is an exciting opportunity for aspiring filmmakers and we’re really pleased to be supporting such a great community event in Winton,” said Qantas Regional Manager for Queensland, Elsa D’Alessio.
“It is the birthplace of Qantas and now Winton is also becoming known as the ‘Hollywood of the Outback’, so we hope this Film Festival will encourage more people to visit and experience everything the region has to offer,” Ms D’Alessio said.
The prize pool includes $1000 cash, Sony tablets and AFTRS gift certificate towards an AFTRS course, with the deadline for entries being Tuesday 21 June, 2016 via post or online.
“We’re looking for something significant, memorable and lasting and encourage entrants to be creative with the topic of Time,” explained Dr Greg Dolgopolov, Festival Artistic Director. “The topic this year aligns with the Festival theme ‘greatest dinosaur films of all time’ and the judges are looking forward to how Time will be interpreted in these short films.”
“It’s easy to be inspired by the incredible landscapes and animated characters within and around the town of Winton,” said Dr Dolgopolov.
