An iconic piece of Australian film history is returning to the spotlight in Outback Queensland.

The original truck driven by Mick Dundee in the 1986 Australian classic, Crocodile Dundee, will be on public display for one night only at the 2026 Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival in Winton on Saturday, June 27th.

Festival-goers and visitors to Winton, will have the rare opportunity to welcome back Mick Dundee’s truck in all its restored glory at an exclusive 40th anniversary screening celebration of Crocodile Dundee at the historic 108 year old Royal Theatre.

Mick Dundee's iconic Never Never Safari Tours truck has been restored and repaired by Rimfire Films to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the film’s release in Australia.

The truck is a 1972 International C-1300, originally used as a PMG truck for mail deliveries in Darwin. For decades, it was stationed at The Walkabout Creek Hotel in McKinlay,  and with the assistance of Vision Splendid Festival Chairman, Trevor Love, was transported across Outback Queensland to Winton for this special occasion. The truck is in the care of Delvene Delaney, a co-director of Rimfire Films with Paul Hogan. Delvene, the wife of the late John Cornell, co-writer and producer of the film, was also closely involved in the original production.

Delvene will be in attendance for the event, and commented, “Mick Dundee’s distinctive truck is a vital piece of Australian film memorabilia, and Paul and I are delighted to premiere its very first outing at the 40th anniversary screening of Crocodile Dundee at Winton’s historic outdoor cinema.”

Vision Splendid Festival President Trevor Love said the festival was honoured to play a role in bringing the truck back into the spotlight as part of the milestone celebrations.

“We’re incredibly privileged to be entrusted with such an iconic piece of Australian film history,” Mr Love said.

“To welcome Delvene Delaney to Winton alongside Mick’s truck for the 40th anniversary screening of Crocodile Dundee at the Royal Theatre is something very special, not just for the festival, but for Australian film lovers and outback communities alike.”

Crocodile Dundee catapulted Australian cinema on to the world stage, and became a global phenomenon. It still resonates with today’s audiences, remaining Australia’s most successful film ever, and one of the country's highest culturally significant productions.

The screening of the film, and display of Mick’s truck, are highlights of Vision Splendid's Opening Weekend celebrations, bringing together Australian film lovers, remote communities and a genuine piece of cinema history under the clear skies and evening stars of Australia’s beautiful Outback.

Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival has long celebrated Australia's screen heritage in the heart of Outback Queensland. The inclusion of the original Crocodile Dundee truck further cements Winton's reputation as the Hollywood of the Outback.

The 2026 Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival runs from 26 June to July 4th in Winton, Outback Queensland.
